Monday, May 27, 2024 A festive atmosphere enveloped Guiyang, the capital of Guizhou Province in Southwest China, as Chen Chuanqian, adorned in traditional attire, danced to lively tunes alongside representatives from various ethnic groups. On the morning of May 18, the city became a vibrant mosaic of cultures with thousands congregating from across the province to partake in a grand parade. Donned in their ethnic costumes, participants played the lusheng (a traditional reed-pipe flute), struck gongs and drums, and performed dances, transforming the gathering into a dynamic celebration of cultural diversity.
Spanning over two kilometers through the heart of the city, the parade transformed downtown Guiyang into a dynamic showcase of ethnic traditions, turning the streets into a live stage for cultural exhibition. Among the spectators, 56-year-old Hu Xiaohua expressed his delight at the festivities, particularly impressed by the grand scale of the event in the urban core. The parade, orchestrated by director Tang Huang, was centered on the theme of ethnic unity and collective joy.
It highlighted the vibrant, open spirit of Guizhou and its rich tapestry of ethnic cultures, aiming to present a welcoming and buoyant image of the region to a broader audience.
