Friday, June 28, 2024 Viasat , a prominent global player in satellite communications, has announced an expansion of its partnership with Airbus Defence and Space. This collaboration aims to equip the Airbus C295 Maritime Patrol Aircraft (MPA) recently acquired by the Spanish Ministry of Defence with Viasat’s advanced Ku- and Ka-band airborne technology. Specifically, Viasat’s dual-band broadband terminal, the GAT-5530, will be integrated into the Spanish C295 MPA fleet.

This integration will provide a robust, flexible broadband SATCOM capability, leveraging SpainSat NG satellites for secure and reliable connectivity. The enhanced capabilities include bolstered command and control (C2) functionalities, as well as intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) applications, crucial for sovereign national security missions. “We are excited to expand our work with Airbus to support the Spanish Ministry of Defence with our highly flexible, multi-band terminal on the C295 Maritime Patrol Aircraft.
