Thursday, May 30, 2024 Alstom , a premier company in the field of smart and sustainable transportation, has agreed to provide TransLink in Vancouver, British Columbia with six additional SkyTrain Mark V trains, totaling 30 railcars, in a deal worth approximately €86 million (CA$123 million). “We’re proud and honoured of the continued confidence of TransLink,” says Michael Keroullé , President & CEO Alstom Americas. “This additional order of our made-in-Canada vehicles, specifically designed for Vancouver SkyTrain, will help improve daily commutes in the Vancouver Greater Area.

” The configuration of the Mark V trains includes five-car units that are open internally, allowing passengers to walk through the entire train. The seating is primarily forward-facing, supplemented by increased areas for bicycles, luggage, and leaning pads. Enhanced digital displays within the train will offer real-time transit updates to passengers.

Additionally, strip lights at the doors will flash to aid hearing-impaired passengers by signaling door movements, system faults, or the activation of emergency brakes. For visually impaired customers, the trains will feature door chimes and audio announcements. Currently, Alstom is in the process of delivering 41 Mark V trains (comprising 205 railcars) to TransLink, with the initial batch arriving in Vancouver in December 2023.

These trains are designed, built, and tested within Canada at Alstom’s facilities located in Kingston, ON, La Poca.
