Thursday, June 20, 2024 The Department of Tourism for the state has launched a series of ambitious initiatives aimed at enhancing the Buddhist landmark, Sankisa, located in the district of Farrukhabad. The initiatives include the creation of a range of tourist amenities at the Buddha Vihar, with an investment close to Rs 20 crore. The improvements will feature the construction of a perimeter wall, enhanced water systems, shelters for visitors, upgraded lighting, sanitary facilities, rest areas, and a large hall for passengers.
Additionally, plans are in place to erect a Buddhist museum over approximately 2.25 acres, funded by an estimated Rs 10 crore. Jaiveer Singh, the Minister of Tourism and Culture for the state, noted that Lord Buddha made his divine descent to the sacred site of Sankisa after delivering teachings to his mother in Devlok.
The Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department is dedicated to transforming Sankisa into a top-tier destination with state-of-the-art amenities, with several projects already underway. Minister Singh stressed that once these developments are complete, Sankisa will rise as not only a pivotal site of Buddhist worship but also a key tourist attraction, significantly bolstering the local economy. “We are committed to developing Sankisa as a major Buddhist pilgrimage site and tourist destination,” said Jaiveer Singh .
