Overnight, severe weather swept through Colorado’s Eastern Plains, causing significant travel disruptions. Strong storms brought heavy rain, large hail, and flooding, with the town of Yuma being one of the hardest-hit areas.

A flood warning was issued for several hours during the night, adding to the chaos. In Otis, a resident captured a photo of hailstones nearly as big as tennis balls, highlighting the intensity of the storm. Tornado warnings were issued in Morgan County and Washington County, though fortunately, there were no reports of injuries.



In Yuma, located about 35 miles west of the Colorado, Kansas, and Nebraska borders, hail snapped tree branches and caused damage to homes. Streets in Yuma were blanketed with hail, resembling snow, and cars were stranded in the middle of the road. First responders had to assist two people inside a pickup truck that was leaning on its side in the floodwaters.

Power outages were reported across the region, further complicating the situation. The CBS Colorado First Alert Weather Tracker experienced a heavy hailstorm in Akron, making driving conditions extremely dangerous. This severe weather event serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of storms in Colorado and the importance of being prepared for such emergencies.
