Wednesday, May 22, 2024 Turkish Airlines , the national flag carrier of Türkiye, embarked on its aviation journey in 1933 with just one aircraft, the Curtiss King Bird D2. This aircraft not only marked the beginning of the airline’s operations but also set the stage for its future successes. To honor this legacy, Turkish Airlines has undertaken a sustainable project that utilizes parts from its aircraft collected over its 91-year history.

To commemorate the aircraft that significantly influenced Turkish civil aviation, Turkish Airlines has collaborated with sculptor Selçuk Yılmaz to create “Wings of Türkiye.” This artwork serves as a bridge between the past and the future, crafted meticulously from metal aircraft parts. The sculpture itself is a feat of engineering and art, weighing about 4 tons and measuring 9 meters in wingspan, 6 meters in length, and 2.



4 meters in height. The creation of the Wings of Türkiye is beautifully showcased in a documentary film. This film draws a parallel between the airline’s modest beginnings and its present status as a global aviation leader, using the sculpture as a metaphorical representation of Turkish Airlines’ journey.

This project and the accompanying film not only celebrate the historical significance of the original aircraft but also underscore Turkish Airlines’ commitment to sustainability and cultural heritage, making a profound statement about its dedication to preserving its rich aviation history while looking.
