Thursday, June 13, 2024 Baltimore voters are calling for balanced transportation spending, emphasizing connectivity and safe, accessible options for walking and biking, according to a new poll by Rails to Trails Conservancy (RTC) and the Central Maryland Transportation Alliance (CMTA). The results indicate a strong preference for equitable funding across pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure, public transit, and highways, moving away from a budget that predominantly supports highways. Respondents suggested distributing transportation funds with over 17% allocated to fixing and maintaining existing public transportation, more than 15% to expanding and building new public transportation, 14% to maintaining walking and biking facilities, and an additional 13.

“By addressing concerns related to safety and accessibility, Baltimore can enhance the quality of life for its residents and create a more connected, active, and healthy community.” Trails are a unifying issue with broad support, with 58% of voters more likely to support officials prioritizing trail development.
