Wednesday, June 19, 2024 Japan saw a steady inflow of over 3 million foreign visitors for business and leisure in May, maintaining the levels recorded in April. However, this figure is slightly lower than the all-time monthly high reached in March, according to the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO). This continued high number of visitors reflects a 60 percent increase from the same period last year and a 9.

6 percent rise compared to May 2019. The weak yen has played a significant role in sustaining this robust pace of inbound tourism, making Japan an attractive destination for international travelers. For the third consecutive month, Japan’s visitor numbers have exceeded 3 million, showcasing the country’s strong appeal to tourists.

The data released on Wednesday highlights Japan’s successful recovery and growth in the tourism sector following the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2019, Japan achieved a record of 31.9 million visitors before the global pandemic disrupted travel.

The recent figures indicate a promising return to pre-pandemic levels, bolstering hopes for continued growth in the tourism industry..
