TAKE a look at the secret sunshine spot that's just a stone's throw away from a major city - with 30C heat, sandy beaches and Ryanair flights from €43. Ponza is part of the Pontine archipelago in the Tyrrhenian Sea, and it's a perfect destination for a summer holiday. The best way to get there is to fly from Dublin Airport to Rome and hop on a train from Rome's main station to the port city of Anzio.

Once you get to Anzio, a ferry will take you to Ponza in an hour and 40 minutes. The ferry is available once or twice per hour. Ponza is known for its natural landscape, sea caves and hidden coves.



It is a gorgeous escape from traditional tourism, and it maintains a small town atmosphere even over the busy summer months. Ponza has a population of around 3,500 inhabitants, and it's a town ruled by the locals. Summer temperatures in the small Italian town usually hover around 25C to 30C, and visitors can expect sunny weather with a side of sea breeze.

One of Ponza's favourite sandy beaches is Cala Feola, which offers crystal-clear water, and the white hills of Capo Bosco surround it. The "Piscine Naturali" is one of Ponza's most famous spots where you'll find natural seawater pools. The sea cove, also known as "the Fontone," was formed thanks to the island's intense volcanic activity and is renowned for its crystal-clear water, surrounded by rocky hills resembling a pool.
