TAKE a look at the little-known sunshine spot with beautiful landscapes, wide golden sand beaches and 23C heat. Lekeitio is situated in Biscay in the Spanish Autonomous Community of Basque - and it's just an hour's drive from Bilbao . The little-known Spanish town is forest-covered by mountains and religious sanctuaries, while the coastline is peppered with caves, coves and islands.
The region is also spared the blistering heat of southern Spain , which can reach 23C during the summertime . Food is another highlight of the provencal town as the Cantabrian Coast delivers a rich bounty of seafood. There are many acclaimed restaurants available, and also many local kitchens as the Basque people are proud of their heritage.
Lekeitio is also known for its Gothic architectural gems and charming finishing village. And the Harbour of Lekeitio is one of the most attractive spots - the fishing boats and its charm maintain the essence that characterises the charming little town. Its centre still conserves a mediaeval air that gives an impression of travelling back to another age with its Goetic features.
The Basilica of Santa María de la Asunción is another attraction definitely worth visiting. And it features gargoyles and buttress architecture. There are two beaches in Lekeitio, Isuntza and Karraspio, and both are close to the town centre.
The beaches offer a magnificent view of the town, and the shops and bars around make your visit even more pleasant. Both beaches have car parks.
