A WARNING has been issued to airline passengers over a little-known rule that could land them a big fine when they land. You might face a hefty fine if you’re not careful with what you bring on your flight to a non EU country like the UK. Maryanne Sparkes, a travel expert at European Waterways, clarified an important rule for those travelling from the EU to the UK.
She said: “If you travel to the EU from a non-EU country, you are not allowed to bring any meat or dairy products with you - this includes those you would find in a meal deal sandwich." This rule affects popular airport meal deals that include meat or dairy products. She added: “If you are carrying any undeclared meat or dairy products, they will be confiscated and destroyed.
"Additionally, you may be fined or face criminal prosecution.” You are allowed to bring a small quantity of specific food, but it’s important to check the regulations before travelling this summer. Maryanne advised to consume these sandwiches in the airport or on the plane, but they must be disposed of either before you get off the flight or as soon as you enter the terminal at the other side.
