THE summer holidays are something that every child looks forward to - but they can be very expensive for parents. Here are five fun places to bring your kids over the next few weeks. The first one on the list is the incredible tidal pool located on Shore Road in the waters of Blacksod Bay in Belmullet, Co Mayo .
Just a short walk from the town centre, it is the perfect addition to a day out as there's incredible shops, cafes and hidden gems nearby. The tidal pool offers views of Blacksod Bay and measures 20m in length. It is filled by hightide water, and both ends of the pool are accessible with ladders.
It has a toddler's section for the younger ones, and a deeper section for the more experienced swimmers . A lifeguard is on duty during the months of July and August. They also provide swimming and safety lessons for children while the lifeguard is on duty.
The pool is free and can be accessed all year round, but without lifeguards apart from in July and August - and parking is available for pool users. The second free place you must go is the popular Natural History Museum, located in the heart of the capital. It was built in 1856, 168 years ago, and is often referred to as a "museum in a museum".
Visitors can explore Irish mammals , birds, fish and insects, as well as mammals from around the world. The museum offers a programme of workshops, talks and tours for all ages. And it may be your last chance to visit for a while as it is closing in September for refurbishment.
