Wednesday, June 12, 2024 Achieving the EU Ecolabel certification marks a significant milestone for hotels, showcasing their commitment to sustainability . Hotel Fevery in Belgium and the Best Western Hotel Moran in Czechia stand as proud examples, having obtained this prestigious certification in 2009 and 2023, respectively. Their journey towards sustainability began with initiatives such as climate-friendly renovations, the provision of filtered water, and the elimination of single-use plastics.

Gabriela Prachařová, Director of Best Western Hotel Moran, highlighted the tangible benefits of the EU Ecolabel, including cost savings through energy-efficient upgrades and reduced water consumption. Meanwhile, Paul Asselman, Owner and Manager of Hotel Fevery, emphasized the positive response from guests, with a significant portion choosing their hotel based on its eco-friendly credentials. Both hotels prioritized not only reducing their environmental footprint but also educating staff and engaging guests in sustainable practices.

Their efforts have garnered media attention, increased visibility on booking platforms, and attracted corporate clients with sustainability mandates. Despite their differing sizes and business models, both hotels found the application process for the EU Ecolabel to be manageable, with support from National Competent Bodies. This accessibility underscores the label’s versatility and applicability across the industry.
