Tuesday, May 21, 2024 Celebrated as a profound lyricist, Oddisee delves into human ambition with his music, asking, “how far are you willing to go, and why?” His work, shaped by the stark inequities of his early life, addresses the human condition with conviction, blending diverse elements into hip-hop-rooted production. Oddisee’s career boasts numerous successful albums, tours, and streams in the hundreds of millions. Similarly, Jindi transcends cultural boundaries by weaving stories into his songs, merging genres such as funk, dancehall, and Afrobeat.
His music connects with a global audience, featuring tracks from his new album, Reign & Fire . This culturally rich event, showcasing local and international talent, aligns with The Arts Center’s mission to highlight regional artists. Bill Bragin, Executive Artistic Director at The Arts Center at NYUAD, expressed excitement about the program.
He noted, “It is great to have Oddisee return to The Arts Center. We presented a virtual concert with him during the pandemic and are thrilled to finally host him live on our stage, along with Jindi, one of the UAE’s leading Sudanese artists.” Bragin highlighted Jindi’s role in Numoo – The Arts Center’s initiative fostering UAE performers and enhancing the nation’s arts ecosystem.
He also emphasized the partnership with Sole and Lamatna, aiming to engage the hip-hop and Sudanese communities in the UAE. Before the concert, on May 27 at 6:30 pm at the NYUAD Gallery Rea.
