A PUB in the UK with a Michelin star has been labelled both "perfect" and "magical" due to its fantastic food and cosy atmosphere. It has also been named one of the 10 best pubs in the country this year, retaining a place on the list for more than 10 years. The Star Inn in Harome, North Yorkshire , is housed within a thatched 14th-century cottage, and has been serving guests for many years.

Some legends claim it used to be a hostelry for monks visiting the many abbeys and monasteries in the area on horseback. The current private dining room in the loft above the pub is believed to have been a dormitory for those sleeping off their drinks from the night before. Although a lot of its history remains a mystery, from the 1930s onwards, it was refurbished by local craftsman Robert "Mousey" Thompson.

Then in 1996 its current owner Andrew Pern took over, turning it into the well-loved gastro pub it is today. On this year's Estrella Damm Top 50 Gastropubs list, it came eighth, although it has previously taken top spot on more than one occasion. Diners are able to choose food from its extensive a la carte menu, while Pern also lays on extravagant tasting menus, with optional matched wines for each course.

Guests can also stay over at The Star, which has a range of boutique hotel rooms. Top 50 Gastro Pubs said: "Close your eyes to picture the perfect country pub and it’s likely you’ll see the Star Inn at Harome, North Yorkshire . "A low, magical building with a thatched roof situat.
