India ranks as the fifth largest source of visitors to Thailand, according to the Thai Ministry of Tourism and Sports.
This uptick in interest is largely attributed to Thailand’s visa-free policy, which has been extended until November 11, 2024. Indian travelers, especially the younger generations—Gen Z and Millennials, who make up 80 percent of the bookings in 2023—drive this growing trend. With India housing the world’s largest population of these age groups, it’s understandable why they are central to Airbnb’s success in the region.
The most popular Thai destinations on Airbnb for Indian travelers are Bangkok, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Krabi, and Samui. Their preferences lean towards beach and urban escapes, with the most booked categories being Pool, Tropical, Near a beach, Near a national park, and Iconic city. Booking trends reveal that Duo and Solo travelers dominate, while small (3-5 people) and medium-sized (more than 5 people) groups are the fastest growing segments, with increases of around 67 percent and 68 percent respectively in 2023.
