Wednesday, June 12, 2024 TAP has announced the debut of its inaugural Altitude Film Fest, an onboard film festival that celebrates cinema and offers unique experiences to its passengers, while also showcasing Portuguese culture and traditions. Participation in the festival is complimentary, with entries accepted until June 30, 2024. The festival allows TAP passengers to enjoy an exclusive array of films at an altitude of 30,000 feet, introducing a novel aspect to in-flight entertainment.

The Altitude Film Fest invites global filmmakers to compete in two categories—documentary and fiction short films. The entries must highlight Portuguese culture or include scenes filmed in Portugal. These films will be screened on TAP Air Portugal’s long-haul flights, utilizing the in-flight entertainment system as one of Portugal’s largest cinemas.

A panel of cinema-linked personalities will judge the films, selecting ten finalists per category to be featured on TAP’s in-flight system throughout October 2024. Passengers will then vote via a survey on the entertainment platform, influencing the choice of winners. Winners will be determined in two phases: 40% of the final score will come from the festival’s official jury of film industry experts, while passenger votes will account for 60%.

The Altitude Film Fest will culminate with an awards ceremony on World Cinema Day, November 5, 2024, in Lisbon. Winners of the Best Fiction Film and Best Documentary will each receive a 3,000-euro .
