Tuesday, June 25, 2024 Discovery Network and TaiwanPlus, a publicly funded media platform specializing in news and entertainment in Taiwan, are teaming up for the second year to produce “Taiwan Spirit,” a three-part series celebrating Taiwan’s vibrant sports culture. This collaboration aims to share Taiwan’s unique stories and spirit with a global audience. Taiwan Spirit highlights individual stories and the battle to succeed internationally.
Episode one features the hardships and victories of table tennis athletes Lin Yun-Ju and Chen Szu-Yu. Episode two spotlights Olympic taekwondo bronze medalist Lo Chia-Ling. Episode three explores the thriving bicycle industry in Taiwan.
The series provides an intimate look at the immense pressure Lin and Chen face in Taiwan and delves into the sacrifices made by Lo to secure her place in the Paris Games in 2024. It captures the athletes’ raw narratives, emphasizing their determination and resilience. Through the stories of Lin Yun-Ju, Chen Szu-Yu, and Lo Chia-Ling, viewers witness the same willpower driving Taiwan’s innovation in industries like its world-leading bicycle sector.
Taiwan’s bicycle industry not only manufactures top-quality goods but also leads the fight against climate change. Initiatives such as the Bicycling Alliance for Sustainability (BAS) promote sustainability through upcycling waste plastics into functional bicycle accessories and integrating smart technology in manufacturing plants.
