This 13-year-old tradition has become a hallmark of summer. This esteemed competition awards prestigious crowns akin to the renowned Michelin stars and keys awarded to exceptional restaurants and hotels.

Are The Artisan Gelato Winners All Italian? No, not all of them. In an unexpected turn of events, gelato artisan Adam Fazekas from Hungary claimed first place this year, surpassing competitors from five continents. Travelers can savor Fazekas’ award-winning gelato at his shop in Budapest, Fazekas Cukraszda .

In previous years, Italians often dominated the top spots, which is not surprising given that gelato originates from Italy. Its origins trace back to Florentine Caterina de Medici, who persuaded celebrated alchemist and astrologist Cosimo Ruggieri to bring his artisanal frozen dessert to the royal court of her husband, Henry II, in 1553. Italian Giovanna Bonazzi, from La Parona del Gelato in Parona (a small municipality in the Veneto region), secured second place in this year’s competition.

Her drive and competitive spirit have also earned her fame in another arena. She holds two world titles in mountain bike racing. MORE FOR YOU Trump's New Attack On Judge Behind His $454 Million Fraud Penalty Explained How Donald Sutherland’s ‘Animal House’ Deal Cost Him Millions.
