Tuesday, May 21, 2024 Southwest Airlines Co. plans to apply to the U.S.

Department of Transportation (DOT) for authorization to begin daily nonstop flights between Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) and Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) in Las Vegas. This request is in pursuit of one of five new round-trip slots available at DCA under the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2024. The new nonstop service aims to provide airline consumers with more choices and increased competition on the DCA to LAS route, which currently has only one daily flight operated by another airline.



If awarded the route, Southwest® projects significantly lower average fares from DCA to LAS. With more than 260 departures from LAS each day this summer, Southwest would create convenient connecting opportunities from LAS to communities across the western United States, including Hawaii. Southwest’s forthcoming application will also propose the only one-stop, same-plane/no-change service between DCA and Sacramento International Airport (SMF) via LAS.
