Friday, May 24, 2024 South Seas, situated on Captiva Island along the Gulf Coast of Florida, is delighted to share a fruitful first yearly Tarpon Tournament backing Folds of Honor, which is a non-profit body dedicated toward delivering life-changing educational grants for the spouses and progenies of American fallen or immobilized armed and first responders. With 31 skippers and 111 anglers, the South Seas Tarpon Tournament reward money was $32,000 while the contest fetched $200,000, paralleling to 40 grants in Lee County to native Folds of Honor receivers. Victorious sides comprised Owens Corning Lumber with four catches and a $16,000 payout was headed by Captain William Rinehold, Target Roofing with Captain Tyler Carner having three catches along with Sunstate Mobile Marine with Captain Shane Earhart with two catches.
Among highpoints from the event are a patriot paratrooper squad alighting on Sunset Beach with American Flags in tow while multitudes around them applauding. The Lee County Honor Guard inaugurated the occasion with a Presentation of Colors and 21-gun greeting accompanied by a native bagpiper. The dinner happened to be a relaxed affair and a poignant evening that entailed barbecue and stirring stories.
