Friday, May 31, 2024 On October 31, 1984, Lufthansa German Airlines inaugurated its first flight from Frankfurt to Seoul, with a layover in Anchorage, Alaska. This flight, operated on a B747, marked Seoul as the 128th destination in Lufthansa’s expansive network. By 1991, the airline had introduced direct flights from Germany to South Korea, thus strengthening the travel ties between the two nations.
From its initial route that included a stopover in Alaska, Lufthansa’s influence in the Korean market has grown significantly. In a pioneering move outside of Europe, Lufthansa has teamed up with Korea’s KTX rail service to provide a combined rail-and-air travel option that promotes sustainable transportation. This collaboration allows Lufthansa travelers to effortlessly journey from Seoul-Incheon International Airport to eight major KTX rail destinations across Korea, such as Busan, Dongdaegu, and Jinju, using a single ticket.
This integrated service offers a streamlined travel experience from downtown Seoul to Incheon Airport. Passengers can benefit from services like boarding pass issuance, luggage check-in, and immigration clearance at the Seoul Station City-Airport Terminal. “At Lufthansa Group, we are transforming the travel journey with every step.
Our pioneering check-in facility at Seoul’s main train station redefines convenience while championing sustainability, offering travelers a seamless and eco-friendly journey.” Leandro Tonidandel, Lufthansa Group Coun.
