Thursday, July 4, 2024 Scandic has finalized long-term leases for two additional Scandic Go hotels situated in the heart of Gothenburg and Umeå. These new facilities, scheduled to launch in 2026, will collectively feature 276 guest rooms, repurposing existing office structures. This expansion increases the Scandic Go brand’s presence to five properties under development, totaling 876 rooms across Sweden and Finland.
Since its inception in September 2023, Scandic Go has garnered positive feedback from both guests and property developers, leading to new partnerships. In Gothenburg, 176 rooms will be developed in the Lilla Bommen district by transforming office space into a hotel. Similarly, in Umeå, a full office building will be redeveloped into a 100-room Scandic Go.
These conversions, driven by property owners, are slated to begin in early 2025 and the hotels are anticipated to commence operations in early 2026. The ongoing high demand for hotel accommodations, coupled with the lengthy process of establishing new properties, has presented Scandic with strategic opportunities. By repurposing office spaces and other buildings, Scandic is poised to expedite the growth of its economy brand.
The conversions are managed by the property owners, who also plan additional commercial ventures within the buildings, such as hotel operations. At the new Lilla Bommen location in Gothenburg, which is roughly 300 meters from the Central Station and near the existing Scandic Göteborg .
