Spirit Airlines, in collaboration with San José Mineta International Airport (SJC), announced plans to apply to the U.S.
Department of Transportation for a new nonstop route between SJC and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA). This application follows the authorization for limited incumbents through the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Reauthorization Act of 2024. If approved, this route will offer travelers the only nonstop, low-fare option between Silicon Valley and the nation’s capital.
It will also enhance competition by introducing a low-cost alternative, giving Bay Area travelers more choices for reaching Washington, D.C. San José, one of the largest cities lacking nonstop service to D.
C., will benefit from a closer and more convenient travel option for millions of residents. Spirit Airlines began operating at SJC in June 2023 and currently provides nonstop flights to Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW), Las Vegas (LAS), and San Diego (SAN).
