Summer holiday season is just around the corner and many people across Ireland are counting down the days until their well-deserved trip away. But with the ongoing cost of living crisis, some will be looking to cut costs in any way possible. One popular airline hack involves passengers choosing to pack everything into their hand luggage for free, rather than paying to check in baggage.

Some carriers, like Ryanair, allow passengers to take one piece of carry-on luggage onto the plane free of charge, which must fit under the seat in front of them. Ryanair in particular has a reputation for being notoriously strict about hand luggage - and the airline's limits offer very little wiggle room. The budget airline is reminding customers that the size of this baggage is being 'strictly enforced' - and anything over the maximum allowed size of 40x20x25cm could be refused at the boarding gate, or where available, placed in the hold of the aircraft for a fee of up to €70.
