After venturing to the Top End of Australia, the Herald checks in at Mindil Beach Casino Resort in Darwin for an unparalleled introduction to the Northern Territory. Location: Mindil Beach, Gilruth Avenue, Darwin city, Northern Territory, Australia. Getting there: Only a 15-minute Uber drive from the airport.
Style: The resort was built in 1983 and its style reflects this, with large sprawling rooms, stone and wood features and colourful entertainment spaces reminiscent of the time. Circular-embossed ceilings and timeless wooden furniture add a hint of nostalgia to the design while its colourful casino paints Mindil Beach as the ultimate hub for entertainment. Outside, the horizon is dotted with palm trees and lanterns, and a modern infinity pool sits at the heart of the hotel’s leisurely charm, surrounded by cabana-esque loungers.
While parts of the resort are seeing a revamp, I stayed in the original quarters - and I loved it..
