CHICO — Soon enough, you may notice The Esplanade has a bit more green — bike lanes, not trees. But first, some road closures. Chico announced Thursday an update to its Esplanade corridor safety and pedestrian improvement project, which began May 13 and is expected to be completed as a 1.

2 mile trimodal route by summer 2025. Beginning Monday, June 10, a full width closure of Memorial Way and Oleander Avenue will be in place, closed to all vehicles until reopening scheduled Aug. 16 — just in time as summer break ends for Chico Unified School District.



Local access within the project zone will be managed with traffic controls in place by The Esplanade, according to the release. The construction is for a roundabout with painted bike lanes and crosswalks by Chico Junior High School, as part of several class three bike boulevard improvments from Memorial way to East 11th Avenue..
