Pancho’s owner dropped to the floor, cradled his injured dog’s head and promised him rib-eyes for life after the rescue pup nearly died saving his family from an intruder. Pancho, pictured here in recovery, was stabbed and kicked when intruders broke into his New Mexico family's home. The family wasn’t charged for Pancho’s surgery, follow-up care and medications.

People have donated thousands to the rescue that helped him. Like many others, Omaha Steaks staffers were misty-eyed after hearing about a WeRateDogs post on social media that told how Pancho was kicked repeatedly and stabbed in the neck on the family’s property in New Mexico on June 4. The intruder was apprehended.

The Omaha company was determined to help the owner make good on his vow. Omaha Steaks sent a box of 12 rib-eyes and four steak-related dog toys for Pancho and 12 caramel apple tartlets for staff to Española Humane in New Mexico, which treated the pitbull-heeler mix after the attack. The package was worth more than $350.

Pancho's owner, pictured here, worked desperately to save the dog's life after it was kicked and stabbed by an intruder to his New Mexico home. “We thought Pancho’s bravery was inspiring, so we wanted to help him recover with some of our 10-ounce rib-eye,” said Danielle Johnson, manager of content and organic social for Omaha Steaks. “It was just one of those tear-jerking stories we all loved and wanted to be a part of.
