A pub landlord has coughed up tens of thousands of pounds to charter a private jet so he could fly football fans to Germany for the Don Lawson, who owns Johnny Foxes and Jimmy Badgers in Inverness, teamed up with local firm SJ Travel to organise the £90,000 jet. Together, they then put together package deals for hotels and tickets that the Tartan Army could take advantage of. The idea has taken off, with 150 Scots taking Lawson up on the offer - and Lawson told he thinks he could have filled multiple planes, if given a bit more notice.
In addition to sorting the flights and accommodation for takers, Lawson ensured the Tartan Army would have the best inflight experience possible. “We knew there would be a bit of a party mood among our Highland Tartan Army travellers so we put in a request that the airline stocks up on double its usual amount of beer for the trip," he told the publication. Press and Journal reports that packages for a one-way flight to the Bavarian capital started at £399, return flights at £795, with full match ticket, flight and hotel deals costing up to £4,200.
Prices are skyrocketing across all airports as thousands of fans from across the UK make their way to Munich for tonight’s game. Hosts Germany are set to take on The Tartan Army at the Allianz Arena on Friday night, kicking off their first competition on home soil since the 2006 . Die Mannschaft are one of the favourites to lift the Euros, while Scotland have never made it past the group stage.
