Thursday, May 30, 2024 On Wednesday, U.S. Representative Norma Torres (CA-35) delivered a $500,000 check to Ontario International Airport (ONT) to fund significant roadway reconstruction in an industrial area situated to the south of the airfield.
The enhancements planned for a one-mile segment encompassing East Avion Street and East Jurupa Street aim to facilitate smoother freight movement to and from the nation’s ninth largest cargo airport. Concurrently, these upgrades aim to alleviate congestion and decrease vehicle emissions in neighboring areas. Key features of the improvements entail fresh pavement, the expansion of lanes in both directions to better accommodate large trucks for passing and turning, installation of intersection signals, striping, signage, utility infrastructure enhancements, as well as grading and drainage adjustments.
The Avion Street Realignment initiative, proposed by Congresswoman Torres among 15 other projects, constitutes a significant part of her Community Project Funding request to the House Appropriations Committee for Fiscal Year 2024. The project will unfold in three phases, with Phase 1 estimated to require an investment of $11.5 million for construction.
