Thursday, May 30, 2024 Oakland Airport launches ‘Canine Comfort at OAK,’ a pet therapy program with Valley Humane Society, starting June 3, 2024. Oakland International Airport (OAK), situated in the San Francisco Bay area, is set to introduce a novel pet therapy initiative called “Canine Comfort at OAK” starting Monday, June 3, 2024. This weekly program is the result of a collaboration with the Canine Comfort Pet-Assisted Therapy team from Valley Humane Society.

“After the pleasure of hosting the volunteer teams from Valley Humane Society this past Valentine’s Day, we are excited to begin this new ongoing program for passengers at OAK,” says Craig Simon, Interim Director of Aviation at the Port of Oakland. “Given the incredible impact pets have on our emotional well-being and the stress associated with travel, we think OAK is the perfect place for our Canine Comfort Pet-Assisted Therapy teams to work their magic,” says Valley Humane President, Melanie Sadek. Every Monday from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, dogs accompanied by their volunteer handlers will roam through both terminals of Oakland International Airport (OAK) as part of the “Canine Comfort at OAK” program.



These therapy dogs, easily recognizable in their official vests, and their handlers, who have all completed the Valley Humane Society’s rigorous certification and training process, will be available for interactions with travelers of any age.
