Tuesday, May 21, 2024 Britain’s largest railway operator has introduced an innovative automatic weekly capping feature for customers using its pay-as-you-go service. This new tool ensures that commuters who are uncertain about the number of days they will be working from home do not miss out on the savings offered by weekly season tickets if that turns out to be the most cost-effective option. The automatic capping feature is available on Govia Thameslink Railway’s (GTR) pay-as-you-go service, including the keyGo tap-in, tap-out ticketing system and the Key Smartcard.

With the new weekly capping, customers using these GTR services will never pay more than the price of a weekly season ticket for multiple journeys between two stations within the keyGo network area in a week. This can potentially save commuters significant amounts each week. Approximately 30,000 customers who are already using keyGo immediately qualify for these potential savings.



The system charges users up to the value of the most economical weekly season ticket for their chosen route. Once customers reach this cap, any further journeys on that route for the week incur no additional cost. This means that after reaching the weekly cap, regular travelers can continue to travel for free for the remainder of the week.

To benefit from this new service, customers need to register for a Key Smartcard through the Southern, Thameslink, and Great Northern websites. Once they receive their Key Smartcard, users can lo.
