Friday, June 7, 2024 The Mississippi River stands as one of North America’s natural marvels, spanning over 3,000 miles across 10 states. Renowned for its rich history, vibrant culture, and unique folklore, the Mississippi has long captivated the imaginations of those who encounter it. However, until now, there hasn’t been a singular, iconic location to fully appreciate the river’s grandeur.

Introducing the Memphis Flyway, an unparalleled attraction that broke ground today and is set to open in 2026. This innovative site will be the only free and ADA-accessible observation deck on the Mississippi River, projected to attract over 1 million visitors annually. Conveniently located in downtown Memphis, it will be easily visible from interstates I-55 and I-40.

Poised to become the premier destination for experiencing the Mississippi River along the Great River Road, which traces the river from Minnesota to the Gulf of Mexico, the Memphis Flyway features a unique 218-foot-long curving observation deck. This latest initiative by the nonprofit Memphis River Parks Partnership follows the successful launch of the $61 million Tom Lee Park in September 2023. Both projects were designed by the acclaimed Studio Gang and SCAPE.

The Memphis Flyway seamlessly integrates conservation, tourism, and heritage: Funded by the Tennessee Heritage Conservation Trust Fund, the U.S. Economic Development Administration, the Tennessee Department of Transportation, and an anonymous donor, the Memphis .
