Monday, July 15, 2024 Go North East recently announced the launch of new bus routes aimed at providing a more reliable service to passengers in Derwentside. This development promises significant improvements in connectivity and convenience for travelers. The new routes are expected to benefit local communities, enhance travel options, and have a broader impact on the bus travel industry globally.

Go North East indicated that residents in Derwentside will soon benefit from new fast bus routes connecting Consett, Stanley, and Newcastle. The new routes will serve several villages, including Burnopfield, Dipton, and Whickham. According to Ben Maxfield from Go North East, these changes are considered “vital” for the communities they serve.



With the introduction of these new routes, bus frequency to Newcastle from Annfield Plain, Dipton, and Burnopfield will double on weekdays. Additionally, direct services to the Metrocentre, which had previously been discontinued, will be reinstated. The changes have been funded through the North East Combined Authority, and the new routes are scheduled to commence on July 21.

In Consett, the introduction of the X70 service and the rerouting of the X71 are expected to significantly increase bus frequency from Leadgate to Newcastle. The X32 service will also see improvements, increasing the number of fast buses from Stanley to Newcastle from two to three per hour.
