Wednesday, June 26, 2024 The grand opening of the Donelson Branch Public Library in June 2024 marked a significant milestone for Nashville, unveiling its newest cultural cornerstone at the heart of the revitalized Donelson Plaza town center. Employing PENETRON ADMIX, a cutting-edge crystalline waterproofing admixture, ensured the library’s below-grade concrete structures were safeguarded against Nashville’s high groundwater levels. Designed by Hastings Architecture in a distinctive mid-century style, the 25,000 square-foot, two-floor library integrates modern amenities with sustainable features, including solar panels, geothermal heating and cooling, and electric vehicle charging stations, all contributing to its LEED Gold certification.
Situated just 6 miles east of downtown and 3 miles from Nashville International Airport, Donelson boasts a rich history tied to John Donelson, Nashville’s co-founder and Andrew Jackson’s father-in-law. The library anchors a renewed Donelson Plaza, complementing new apartments, townhouses, and green spaces, revitalizing the neighborhood center into a vibrant hub for residents. Messer Construction, the project’s general contractor, collaborated with Penetron to enhance the concrete mix’s durability, crucial in managing the site’s high groundwater.
