Sunday, June 9, 2024 MTR Corporation , a leader in low-carbon transportation solutions, is dedicated to slashing carbon emissions via a variety of initiatives. On June 8, 2024, the company marked a significant milestone by launching its inaugural electric bus on MTR Bus Route K54. This route connects Wo Tin Estate, Siu Hong Station, and Tuen Mun Town Centre, offering an eco-friendly transit option within the community.

Funded by the New Energy Transport Fund from the Environment and Ecological Bureau, MTR’s first electric bus and its associated charging infrastructure represent a major leap towards sustainable transport. This electric model cuts carbon emissions by over 60% and operates more quietly than traditional diesel buses, enhancing passenger comfort with its meticulously designed interiors and ample seating (refer to appendix). The bus features an energy regenerative braking system that captures kinetic energy during braking, converting it into electrical energy to power onboard systems and improve battery efficiency.



Additionally, its electric motor minimizes energy wastage during idling, making it ideal for feeder routes with frequent stops for passenger boarding and alighting. “As a low-carbon transport provider, MTR Corporation has been actively reducing its carbon footprint and implementing various eco-friendly measures.
