This year marks Mastercard’s 30th anniversary of sponsoring South America’s premier football tournament, bringing people closer to the sport they adore. To celebrate the tournament’s start, Mastercard has unveiled its newest video, “Giving Back,” featuring Lionel Messi, the Argentinian football legend and brand ambassador since 2018. Inspired by a true story, the video shows Messi attempting to use his Mastercard at various small businesses, only to be met with store owners who refuse his payment as a gesture of gratitude and respect for all he has done for football fans.
