UNRULY airline passengers are facing a crackdown in Ireland after dodgy behaviour tripled in the past five years. Aer Lingus , Ryanair and all the country’s airports are among backers of the new move saying they have had enough of the rude, boozed-up or aggressive “bad eggs” on board. Dodgy behaviour is being targeted in the #NotOnMyFlight campaign amid concerns around almost daily incidents.
An Garda Síochana , the Irish Aviation Authority, AirNav Ireland, ground handlers and international aviation organisations have signed up to help stamp it out. It comes as reports say unruly behaviour has tripled since 2019. That includes drunk or aggressive passengers or inappropriate words and actions as well as even physical and sexual assault.
And it covers those who fail to follow the commands of flight crew. Those backing the joint declaration say they have had enough and will not tolerate any behaviour that disrupts the passenger experience or impacts safety. The action plan will involve regular meetings and working together to clamp down on the nuisance passengers.
Garda Assistant Commissioner Angela Willis said: “Unfortunately there are a small minority whose behaviour at airports or on aircraft can have a significant impact on the experience and safety of other passengers or flight crew. “An Garda Síochána is delighted to sign this declaration and to work with our partners to combat disruptive and dangerous behaviour which will not be tolerated.” Aer Lingus Ch.
