Wednesday, June 12, 2024 In celebration of World Oceans Day, Holiday Inn Resort Kandooma Maldives , in collaboration with Parley for the Ocean (Maldives), organized a special reef cleaning scuba dive. Certified scuba diving guests joined Kandooma’s own qualified divers for this event. The enthusiastic team spent the afternoon cleaning the reef behind Kandooma Island, removing 3 kg of rubbish, including metals, plastic, and fishing lines.
After their return to the Kandooma Dive Centre, the group enjoyed refreshing drinks while discussing the day’s activities. This collective effort not only helped sustain our precious underwater ecosystem but also raised awareness about the crucial importance of protecting our oceans and reefs. General Manager of Holiday Inn Resort, Mark Eletr said, “Being a keen scuba diver myself, I am aware of the challenges our marine life is facing and it is important to create awareness through initiatives such as our World Oceans Day Reef Dive.
It is fantastic to see the guest turnout and support, and I’m very proud of the team at Kandooma who get behind any opportunity to go the extra mile,” “IHG’s Journey for Tomorrow is our overarching guiding light of what we want to achieve as a group by 2030 with a series of ambitious commitments to drive change. Responsible tourism relies on individual properties like Kandooma also flying the flag and doing what they can for their local communities, people and the planet.” he added.
