The Italian conference tourism sector is thriving alongside the upswing in leisure tourism, marked by a notable increase in the number of conferences and business events hosted in Italy.
This trend is highlighted by the findings of the Italian Survey of Conferences and Events [Osservatorio Italiano dei Congressi e degli Eventi-OICE], a study supported by the meetings industry association Federcongressi&eventi and conducted by the Graduate School of Economics and International Relations at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore – ASERI. The research reveals that 340,057 events took place in Italy in 2023, reflecting a 12% rise from 2022. The total number of delegates reached 27,152,890, marking a 28% increase, while overall attendance hit 41,835,932, a 31.
9% jump compared to the previous year. These indicators demonstrate significant double-digit growth, indicating that post-COVID-19, companies are once again heavily investing in events such as conventions, meetings, and product launches as key marketing and retention strategies. Additionally, associations, particularly in the medical-scientific field, have resumed hosting congresses to disseminate and promote knowledge and innovation.
