Monday, June 3, 2024 Pieter Elbers, CEO of IndiGo, has commenced his tenure as IATA Board Chair, starting after the 80th Annual General Meeting in Dubai. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) recently declared that Pieter Elbers, the CEO of IndiGo, has officially started his role as the Chair of the IATA Board of Governors (BoG). His term, set for one year, commenced following the closure of the 80th IATA Annual General Meeting, which was held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on June 3.

Elbers, marking the 82nd Chair of the IATA BoG, previously contributed to the Board from 2016 to 2022 while he was the President and CEO of KLM, and was reappointed to the Board in 2022 shortly after taking the helm at IndiGo. He takes over the position from RwandAir CEO Yvonne Manzi Makolo, who remains a member of the BoG. With over three decades of extensive experience in the aviation sector, Elbers has been at the forefront of IndiGo since September 2022, steering the airline toward greater growth and global reach.



Before his tenure at IndiGo, he spent eight years leading KLM as President and CEO. His journey in the aviation industry began at KLM in 1992, starting as Manager of Aircraft Loading, and subsequently ascending through significant leadership roles within KLM in various countries including The Netherlands, Japan, Greece, and Italy.
