Wednesday, May 22, 2024 Driven by an expanding middle class and a greater variety of travel options, a record number of Indians are taking to the skies. A Mastercard study reports that nearly 97 million passengers traveled through Indian airports in the first quarter of 2024 alone. This surge represents a significant 21% increase in domestic air travel compared to the figures from 2019.

International travel has also seen an uptick, growing by 4% during the same period. The report sheds light on the destinations that are attracting Indian travelers. There is a notable increase in the popularity of adventure destinations, with significant growth in visits to Japan, Vietnam, and the United States.



Specifically, travel to Japan has gone up by 53%, to Vietnam by an impressive 248%, and to the United States by 59% compared to the levels before the pandemic..
