Friday, June 28, 2024 A tragic incident at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport has led to significant disruptions in flight operations. A portion of the roof at Terminal 1 collapsed, resulting in the death of one individual and injuring around five others. In response, the airport authorities have taken immediate action to suspend all outbound traffic from Terminal 1 and redistribute flights to Terminals 2 and 3.
The roof collapse occurred in the early hours of Friday, attributed to heavy rains that battered the region. Emergency personnel were quickly deployed to the scene to manage the situation and ensure the safety of all passengers and staff. As a precautionary measure, all departures from Terminal 1 were temporarily suspended, and all check-in counters were closed.
With Terminal 1 primarily handling domestic flights for IndiGo and SpiceJet, the airport’s management had to swiftly reallocate these flights to maintain operational continuity. According to the Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL), all IndiGo flights originally planned for Terminal 1 have been distributed between Terminals 2 and 3. Similarly, all SpiceJet flights have been relocated to Terminal 3.
