A mum-of-two who was a former housewife loves leaving the kids at home to travel the globe – but other parents judge her. Colleen Smith, 37, from County Durham, finds travelling alone liberating while her children, aged eight and five, are looked after by their father and grandparents during her trips. She relishes the quality time she spends with them upon her return.

Since parting ways with her children's father in 2022, Colleen has embarked on solo adventures to Portugal, Spain, Morocco, and Peru. And she's not planning to stop globe trotting anytime soon. She has plans to explore Chile and South Africa in 2024 and prefers to use the group travel company, WeRoad, for safety reasons.



Colleen, who runs a dog grooming business, shared: "Travelling on my own within the safety of an organised tour has given me so much independence and confidence."
