Wednesday, May 22, 2024 Iberia has partnered with the University of Navarra to support cancer research and provide treatment to children from abroad. Under this collaboration, Iberia will contribute €60,000 to help cover travel expenses for these children and their families to the Clínica Universidad de Navarra in Spain for medical care. One of the initial recipients, Marlon Dariel, a 7-year-old from Ecuador, benefited from this initiative.

He received treatment for Hyper-IgM syndrome, a rare immunodeficiency, at the hospital’s Paediatric Cancer Centre, including a successful bone marrow transplant. Following his treatment, he and his family returned to Ecuador on flight IB6461, celebrating with a large, personalized cake at Iberia’s Velázquez Premium Lounge. The agreement was formalized in Pamplona by Álvaro Balibrea, the University’s manager, and Beatriz Guillén, Iberia’s Director of Global Sales.

This partnership aims to provide access to specialized medical treatments in Spain for children who are unable to receive necessary care in their home countries. Mr Balibrea shared his happiness about the agreement and highlighted the work that the airline and the University will carry out to promote paediatric cancer research and to help children from other countries receive treatment. “Part of the mission of the University of Navarra is to disseminate knowledge and science to help society, which is one of the aims of this partnership,” he said.
