A blaze on the has caused significant on Sunday evening. National Highways confirmed lanes were closed after a car fire shortly before 6pm on July 14. The fire took place in an emergency bay on the busy motorway between J19 and J18 in Cheshire heading southbound.

Two of the four lanes were quickly shut, with an estimated delay of half an hour and four miles of congestion. After around half an hour, a lane reopened as the remains of the car fire were collected from the carriageway. Posting on social media, National Highways said: "New incident #M6 southbound J19 (#A556) to J18 (#Middlewich) #Cheshire.



Lanes Closed due to an earlier vehicle fire two lanes (of four) are closed. The fire is out and the lane closures are in the process of being removed. 30 min delay and four miles of congestion.

" In a second tweet at shortly after 6.15pm, National Highways said: "Update #M6 southbound J19 (#A556) to J18 (#Middlewich) #Cheshire Lane closed one lane (of four) remains closed pending recovery of a car which caught fire earlier in an emergency bay. 15 min delay and two miles of congestion which is reducing.

" In a third update posted from National Highways, it confirmed all lanes were reopened at around 6.30pm on Sunday, with delays clearing gradually into the evening..
