Friday, June 28, 2024 Hong Kong Airlines has announced the launch of a new route to Xining in Qinghai Province, with two weekly flights commencing from 9 July 2024. This direct flight service aims to enhance connectivity between Hong Kong and mainland China. Xining, located on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, serves as a vital link between China’s eastern and western regions, including Tibet.
Economically, Xining is the central hub of Qinghai Province, playing a significant role in agriculture, energy, and tourism. It also facilitates economic and trade ties between Qinghai and Tibet. Culturally, Xining is of great importance, deeply rooted in Tibetan culture with a rich history and traditions.
It stands as a cultural hub for Tibetans, offering travelers a blend of eastern and western Chinese cultures and serving as a gateway to explore Tibet. Nearby attractions include the iconic Kumbum Monastery, Qinghai Lake — China’s largest inland saltwater lake, and the stunning Chaka Salt Lake, known as the “Mirror of the Sky.” Since 27 May, Xining has been included in the Individual Visit Scheme (IVS) for travel to Hong Kong and Macau, facilitating spontaneous trips for local travelers.
This new flight service further promotes connectivity, enabling Hong Kong residents to explore western Chinese cities and experience Xining’s unique cultural landscapes. This initiative aims to foster cultural and economic exchanges between the regions and international travelers. Hong Kong Airli.
