Saturday, July 6, 2024 Hitachi Rail celebrates Skyline’s first anniversary, surpassing one million passengers, showcasing enhanced urban transit and strong community partnerships in Honolulu. Hitachi Rail, in partnership with the City and County of Honolulu, the Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation (HART), and the Department of Transportation Services (DTS), proudly commemorates the first anniversary of passenger service on Honolulu’s Skyline. This milestone signifies a year of improved connectivity and eco-friendly transportation for Oahu.
Since the launch of the initial 11-mile phase, Skyline, the nation’s first fully autonomous metro system, has revolutionized urban travel in Honolulu, offering a safe, reliable, and sustainable transit solution for both residents and visitors. With the successful commencement of Segment One revenue service, significant progress has been made on Segment Two. This segment is expected to begin passenger service in late 2025, further enhancing transit options for the community.
“One year ago, the launch of Skyline signified the beginning of a new and transformative era in Honolulu’s public transportation,” said Mayor Rick Blangiardi . “This milestone represents more than just a year of operation; it embodies our commitment to creating a future-ready, sustainable city for the next generation. Although significant work remains to complete the entire project, the positive effects we’ve seen from this initial phase are unden.
