AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Dan Pydynowski noted that the storm’s path, moving north-northwestward, positions it to bring heavy rainfall and potentially reach tropical storm status just before making landfall. The warm waters and low wind shear in the Gulf create a conducive environment for the storm to intensify. If the storm’s sustained winds reach 39 mph or greater before any other system in the Atlantic Basin, it will be named Alberto, the first named storm of the season.
