This year, the airport celebrates significant achievements in waste management, water conservation, and decarbonization. Hamad International Airport is on track to meet its 2030 goal of reducing carbon emissions by 30%, aligning with its environmental sustainability objectives.
Since initiating LED lighting upgrades in 2018, the airport has converted over 65,000 luminaires to LED, saving approximately 3 million kWh of energy in 2023. Additionally, the airport has implemented various innovative technologies and operational procedures, such as optimized HVAC management, smart-metering for electricity and water, and investments in sustainable building solutions, earning the Global Sustainability Assessment System Design & Build (GSAS-D&B) 4-Star certifications from the Gulf Organisation for Research & Development (GORD). From April 2023 to March 2024, 81% of the airport’s waste was reused, recycled, or converted into energy, one of the highest rates in the industry.
